Get to Know Us
The Alpha Kappa Chapter was legally incorporated on December 14, 1952. Originally known as Delta Gamma Nu, the chapter later nationalized with Delta Sigma Pi, marking a significant milestone in its history. Over the years, Alpha Kappa has made notable contributions to the Fraternity and beyond.
In 1975, Delta Sigma Pi began admitting women into its Brotherhood, and on December 4, 1976, Marilyn W. Shower became the first female initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter. The chapter also has strong ties to popular culture, as Brother Francis H. Striker (AK79) is credited with creating The Lone Ranger. Additionally, two Alpha Kappa brothers have held the Fraternity’s highest elected office: Brother Franklin Albert Tobber (AK121) in 1961 and Brother Richard John Parnitzke (AK568) in 1983. Recognizing the chapter’s contributions to the community, the City of Buffalo officially declared November 7, 2000, as Alpha Kappa Chapter/Delta Sigma Pi Day, thanks to the efforts of Brother Ray Matthew (AK1394).
